If you’re a fan of Kanye, you’re a fan of yourself
Where do I even begin with this one? Discussing Kanye in an essay was probably the piece I was most excited to write when I got the idea for Why I Love. One of the most controversial people in the world also happens to be one I love the most
Kanye has inspired me greatly over the past six years. When it came to writing this essay, I wondered what would compel someone to read on? He’s an asshole, after all. My boyfriend asked me before if I would ever like to meet Kanye, and I said I wouldn’t. As the saying goes, you should never meet your heroes, probably.
There are a number of reasons why I love Kanye West. I think he has always been a fantastic someone-to-witness (there is no synonym that conveys what I am trying to describe here — mascot, example, or role-model would be incorrect words to use) when it comes to mental health issues and neurodivergence. His self-confidence is fantastic and something I strive towards constantly. I like his perseverance and belief in himself, his success story. He has always called himself a genius, and never once did he believe otherwise. And look where that’s gotten him. I think it’s an excellent strategy to never feel embarrassed or insecure. Oh, and he’s absolutely hilarious.
But before I get in to Why I Love him, I’ll start with the things I don’t like and get them out of the way. My love for Kanye is not unconditional. Even those we love the most do things we hate. </3
